Someone Changed My Google Business Hours Without Permission: Why It Happens and How to Fix It
Sanderson Oliveira - CEO - The ProfileWard Team · September 14, 2026
This is one of the most common complaints in the Google Business Profile support community, and for good reason: your hours are one of the fields Google allows the public to suggest edits on, and a portion of those suggestions go live automatically without ever reaching you for approval. You did not misconfigure anything, and in most cases nobody broke into your account. Google's own system changed it based on a suggestion it trusted enough to auto-apply.
The fix has two parts: correct the hours right now, and then reduce how often this happens going forward. Both are covered below.
Why this one is worse than it looks
Wrong hours don't announce themselves. A customer sees "closed" on a Friday afternoon when you're actually open, and they simply go somewhere else. You never get a complaint, a call, or any signal that it happened. The only thing you see, eventually, is a slower Friday with no explanation.
Fix it right now
- Sign in to business.google.com and open the profile.
- Go to Edit profile → Business information → Hours.
- Correct both regular hours and any special/holiday hours. These are stored separately, and a wrong holiday schedule is one of the most common culprits.
- Save. Verified, well-established listings tend to see corrections reflect within a few hours; newer or less-verified listings can take longer.
Why Google let this happen
"Suggest an edit" is a public feature on every Google Business Profile. Anyone with a Google account can propose a change to your hours from the Maps or Search listing, without contacting you first. Google's system evaluates that suggestion against signals it trusts: how many other sources report similar hours, how consistent the suggestion is with existing data, and how reputable the suggesting account appears to be. A portion of suggestions clear that bar automatically.
That means a customer who misremembers your hours, a competitor testing what they can get away with, or simply a stale scrape from an old directory can all trigger a change that goes live with zero human review on Google's side and zero notification on yours.

- Keep your listing fully verified. Verified profiles get more weight against low-quality suggested edits.
- Make sure your hours are listed identically on your own website, since consistency across sources is one of the signals Google weighs.
- Check special hours ahead of every holiday. It's the single most frequently wrong field, because it's easy to forget and easy for a stale suggestion to fill the gap.
- If you catch the same field getting overwritten repeatedly, report the pattern to Google through the Business Profile support thread flow. A one-off correction doesn't flag anything on Google's side, but a reported pattern can.
What none of this solves
Even doing all of the above, the fastest anyone finds out is when they happen to check the listing or a customer complains. There is no built-in alert from Google when a field like this changes. The only way to close that gap is to have something watching the profile continuously and flagging the change the moment it happens, not days or weeks later.
